Therapy Goats Join NASCAR’s Ryan Blaney and Wife Gianna at Their Alzheimer’s and Autism Center

Ryan Blaney, NASCAR’s star driver, and his wife Gianna have decided to add new heartwarming helpers at their Alzheimer’s center—our therapy goats! These lovable animals will soon be joining the center to provide comfort and emotional support. These therapy goats will be coming directly from us, and the Blaney’s will be receiving them in just a few months!

Why Therapy Goats?

The profound effects animals can have on mental and emotional health, particularly for those living with Alzheimer’s and autism, which both present challenges in communication and socialization. Goats, often known for their playful and quirky nature, are excellent companions for individuals with these conditions. Their gentle demeanor and affectionate behavior can help reduce stress and anxiety, increase engagement, and even improve cognitive function through interaction. For people with Alzheimer’s, the goats offer a distraction from memory loss and a way to reconnect with their feelings, while those with autism can benefit from the calm, non-judgmental presence that the animals provide. Goats, in particular, are known to help with:

Reducing Anxiety and Stress – The presence of animals has been shown to lower cortisol levels (a stress hormone), leading to feelings of calm and relaxation. This is especially beneficial for individuals dealing with the emotional and psychological stresses.

Improving Mood and Social Interaction – Goats are social creatures, and their interactions with humans can encourage positive emotional responses. For children with autism, they may serve as a bridge for communication and socialization, helping them engage with the world in new ways.

Promoting Cognitive Function – Engaging with animals can help stimulate the brain. For Alzheimer's patients, interacting with therapy goats can help improve memory recall and cognitive skills. Even just feeding or petting the goats can spark memories and positive emotions.

Enhancing Physical Activity – Care for the goats might also involve mild physical activity, such as walking or brushing the animals, which is beneficial for both physical health and motor skills.

And as “Juniper, Peanut, and Fiona” join the different programs, we look forward to seeing the positive effects on those who visit. In just a few months, these therapy goats will bring healing, joy, and comfort to those who need it most. It’s just another example of how unexpected partnerships, like those between animals and humans, can create lasting positive change.
